Before you hit the slopes, make sure your gear is in tip-top shape. It's a key element to a safe and enjoyable ride.

What to pay attention to?

  • Skis:
    • Edges: Check that they are sharp and not rusty. Sharp edges provide better grip, especially on icy slopes.
    • Slides: They should be smooth and scratch-free. Regular lubrication with wax (fluoride or fluoride-free - depending on conditions and preferences) improves the ride quality and protects the base from moisture and dirt.
    • Bindings: Make sure they are properly adjusted and working properly. It is worth making sure they are adjusted to the weight and skill of the skier, and that they release properly in the event of a fall. Check their functionality regularly.
  • Shoes:
    • Fasteners: All buckles and Velcro should function properly.
    • Inserts: The insoles should be dry and clean, which affects thermal comfort and fit. If they are worn, it is worth replacing them.
    • Flex: Make sure the boot flex is right for your skill level and riding style. Stiffer boots work better for advanced skiers, while softer boots are more comfortable for beginners.
  • Poles:
    • Baskets: It is important that they are well attached and adapted to the type of snow (e.g. larger baskets for powder, smaller ones for hard slopes).
    • Handles: They should be ergonomic, and if they are rubberized, they must not slip when wearing gloves.
    • Belts: The straps must be strong and their length should allow you to easily remove the poles without the risk of losing them.
  • Helmet:
    • Fasteners: Check that all fasteners are working properly and that the helmet fits snugly on your head.
    • Insert: A clean and undamaged liner ensures hygiene and protection. It is also worth making sure that the helmet meets applicable safety standards (e.g. EN 1077).

Where to service your equipment? Don't have the time or skills to prepare the equipment yourself? In Karpacz you will find many professional ski and snowboard services, which will take care of your equipment comprehensively. Specialists will thoroughly check the condition of the equipment, sharpen edges, lubricate slides and replace worn parts.

Before heading out to the slopes, it’s worth taking care of your physical condition. Regular strength training will help minimize the risk of injury, increase your endurance, and improve your riding technique. The key muscle groups you should pay special attention to are: legs (quadriceps, biceps, glutes), core (abdominal and back muscles) and muscles that stabilize the knee and ankle joints.

Example set of exercises:

  • Squats: strengthen the muscles of the legs and buttocks, improve stability.
  • Trips: Perfectly shapes the muscles of the legs and buttocks and improves balance.
  • Deadlift: strengthens the muscles of the back of the body, improves stability.
  • Plank: strengthens core muscles, improves stability.
  • Lunges: They perfectly engage the muscles of the legs and buttocks.
  • Stabilization exercises: e.g. balancing on one leg, squats on one leg.

Remember: Before starting a new training plan, it is worth consulting a physiotherapist or personal trainer who will adapt the exercises to your individual needs and capabilities. Regularity is the key to success – it is worth exercising at least 3 times a week.

Weather conditions in the mountains can change very quickly. A sunny morning can turn into a snowstorm in a matter of hours. That is why it is worth taking care of the appropriate clothing that will provide thermal comfort and protect against adverse weather conditions.

What to pack for skiing in Karpacz?

  • Thermal underwear: The foundation of every ski wardrobe! Properly selected underwear wicks away moisture, keeping you dry and warm all day on the slopes.
  • Ski jacket and pants: Opt for models made of waterproof and windproof materials. Choose jackets with a membrane – breathable and protecting against overheating.
  • Warm gloves: Ski gloves should be waterproof and windproof, while providing adequate thermal insulation.
  • Hat: A warm hat that fits snugly is a must-have. Make sure it effectively protects your ears from the cold!
  • Ski socks: Specialized socks provide thermal comfort, moisture wicking and additional cushioning while riding.
  • Helmet: A must-have for every skier! A helmet provides safety by protecting your head from injury in the event of a fall.
  • Goggles: Well-fitting goggles will protect your eyes from wind, snow and UV radiation. Choose a model with the right filter for the weather conditions.

Additional accessories:

  • Balaclava or buff: Effective face protection against wind and frost.
