The Museum building was built in 1932-36, thanks to the inspiration of the inhabitants of Krummhubel - Karpacz, intended for the Regional Museum. It operated until 1946, after which it was closed down. In the early 1970s, the idea of creating a Museum of Sports and Tourism was born in Karpacz. The Museum of Sports and Tourism of the Karkonosze Region in Karpacz was opened as a branch of the Museum of Sports and Tourism in Warsaw in 1974. The Museum's collections consist of exhibits from private individuals, gifts and transfers, and deposits from other local museums.
The museum's curiosities include a specially made foundation visible on the left in front of the main entrance. The building's plinth contains rocks found throughout the Sudetes. They create a panoramic cross-section of the geological layer of these mountains. Each stone placed there is different. You can see, among others, granite, basalt, sandstone, mica schist, greenstone, crystalline limestone, gneiss quartz, marl and hornfels stone - which is under strict protection and is also characteristic of the geological structure of Śnieżka. An alpinarium was created around the Museum.
The permanent exhibition presents an extremely interesting collection of skis, starting from the 19th century to the 1950s. There are also horned sleighs, so characteristic of this region in German times, a recreational and racing sled, a unique bobsled from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, skeletons, skibobs, etc. The collection related to the laboratory technicians of the Karkonosze Mountains is absolutely unique. There are pots of herbs, vials, mandrake root, a list of medicines, and a laboratory technician's certificate. In the nature part, you can admire the unique panorama of the Karkonosze Mountains (5 m by 2 m), the birds and animals of these mountains, as well as a curiosity - a two-headed calf - once born in these areas. The Museum also often presents temporary exhibitions thematically related to the Museum's activity program, e.g. "Karkonosze Mountains in Winter", "Karkonosze Mountains in Old Graphics", "Olympic Poster", "Liczyrzepa, the Ruler of the Karkonosze Mountains" or "Poles in the Karkonosze Mountains". You can also see here the most valuable souvenirs related to Tadeusz Różewicz: the Nike Award - a Polish literary award and many others, such as manuscripts and works of this poet related to the Karkonosze Mountains. Sometimes, when the poet visits Karpacz, you can usually meet him in the alpine garden - his favorite place, from where there is a wonderful view of the eastern Karkonosze Mountains.
