Samotnia shelter

Solitude – PTTK shelter named after Waldemar Siemaszko at Mały Staw, in Kocioł Małego Staw, in the Karkonosze Mountains. You can reach the shelter by following the blue trail from the Wang Temple or descending from Strzecha Akademicka.

The shelter has 50 beds, a restaurant, central heating, showers with hot water, a clothes drying room, ski rental and deck chairs. There is a Mountain Volunteer Rescue Service and a postal agency here. Currently, "Samotnia" is flourishing and has become one of the most awarded shelters and tourist facilities in Poland. Being in Karpacz, it is impossible not to visit this, certainly one of the oldest and most beautiful shelters in the Karkonosze Mountains.

The first mention of Samotnia - a shack by the pond - dates back to 1670. A guard lived there, keeping an eye on the trout bred in the Mały Pond reservoir. "Samotnia" is located in one of the most beautiful places in the Karkonosze Mountains - in the Mały Staw basin. It is a cauldron of glacial origin, at the bottom of which there is a mountain pond with a depth of 7 m and an area not exceeding 3 ha. From the west it borders with the Wielki Staw basin and from the southeast with the Karkonosze ridge. In winter, numerous avalanches occur here.
