PTTK shelter Academic thatch is located on the western side of the Złotówka clearing, at an altitude of 1,258 m. It is the second largest (next to the Pod Łabskim Szczytem shelter) and the oldest shelter in the Karkonosze Mountains.
Already in the first half of the 17th century, on the trail leading from Karpacz to Śnieżka, there was a shepherd's hut serving mountain hikers. In 1986 The first tourist shelter was built, but it burned down in 1906. The current shelter was built in 1907 and has been modernized and rebuilt many times. After the war, the shelter was taken over by the student organization BATNIA POMOC and its current name - Strzecha Akademicka - comes from this period. In the years 1950-56 there was a FWP holiday home here. Since 1957, Strzecha Akademicka has been the property of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society. The construction of a drag lift on Hala Złotówka in the 1970s was important for the functioning of the shelter in winter.
At the shelter there is also the beginning of the yellow trail to Karpacz > Biały Jar (1 hour). There are 140 beds and a restaurant with home-made cuisine in Strzesze Akademicka.
