Usually, when you think about a mountain shelter, you think of a single, spacious hut located somewhere lonely among the hills. The exception to this rule is Orle Tourist Station in the Jizera Mountains, located in abandoned buildings - tourists can take shelter, for example, in the former grinding shop of an 18th-century glassworks, the remains of a settlement accompanying an industrial plant and guard stations of the Border Protection Forces.
The shelter has several dozen beds. Rooms of various standards can accommodate from 2 to 7 people, and in case of higher occupancy, a collective room is also opened. As a last resort, there is also a paid camping site on the site. Bathrooms, showers, a small buffet (hot and cold dishes and drinks), a fireplace room, bicycle and winter equipment rental (cross-country skis, poles, rackets), an outdoor beer hut, benches and a grill - such additions can be expected. It is not often in such circumstances that you can come across a small football pitch, volleyball pitch and a Finnish sauna - and this is what ST Orle has.
The shelter has an extended offer for organized groups. At the guests' request, sleigh rides, dog sled rides, quad or snowmobile rides, mountaineering classes, lectures or a conference room are available. Most of these attractions are the result of the activities of the Izera Society, which promotes the tourist attractions of the entire region.
The Orle Tourist Station is located less than a kilometer from the Polish-Czech border, approximately 4 km from Jakuszyce. In summer, with the consent of the forest district, you can drive here by car and leave your vehicle in the improvised parking lot. In winter, the snow-covered road makes it impossible even for off-road vehicles to reach the shelter area - in exceptional situations (e.g. for tourists planning a longer stay with children), the hosts offer to transport their luggage on snowmobiles.
